International Book Show

Salone Internazionale del Libro Show is the largest library of the Italian-speaking communities and of the whole cultural area of the Mediterranean. A showcase where small and medium-sized publishers have the same visibility of the big  brands and where even the local publishing industry can be known beyond the borders of its territory. The Exhibition is also a vibrant international culture festival with a program of over a thousand book presentations, conferences, meetings, debates, shows and more than 2,000 speakers and guests in five days. Nobel Prize winners, writers, scientists, philosophers, historians, journalists and artists. Great minds of the contemporary world, big questions to understand the challenges of the society in which we live. A debate conducted in the spirit of respect and dialogue between cultures and ideas.

This Show was founded in 1988 by  two Turin citizens: the bookseller Angelo Pezzana and the entrepreneur Guido Accornero. Since its first edition features an annual theme, a common thread that unites the most important conferences. Inaugurating the fair on his first edition is the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky, Nobel Prize in 1987.

The International Book Show happens every year in Torino, Piemonte, Italy and it is suitable for all ages. It is held from May 10th to May 14th in 2012.

Here are some fun facts: Over 42,000 children and teenagers up to 18 years visited the show in 2009. They have a dedicated area called Bookstock Village of over 4,000 square feet full of initiatives, meetings, libraries, games and workshops to train tomorrow’s readers. A commitment that extends along with schools and institutions many projects: Born to read, to teach families the importance of reading from the cradle, online games and books for students , the initiative “adopt a writer” who brings more than twenty authors to visit high school in Italy and proposals and ideas for college students.
